No. 6 Georgia Sweeps FGCU To Extend Winning Streak To Nine
March 01, 2025 | Baseball
ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Slate Alford provided the third straight walk-off of Florida Gulf Coast Saturday as sixth-ranked Georgia claimed a doubleheader, winning 10-0 on a run-rule in game one and then 9-8 in 10 innings in game two.
The Bulldogs have won nine straight. On Friday, Alford's bases-loaded fielder's choice scored the winning run, and on Saturday it was a sacrifice fly for a run-rule in the first game and then a run-scoring single in the 10th capped a comeback from an early 6-0 deficit.

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson
On game two being another comeback win
"As the coach, you have to stay calm and just believe that your guys are going to come back and get off really good swings, have really good at bats and whoever you're putting in a game is going to get outs, and we did that again. We're getting really close on the pitching side. The challenge is you have three games in four days left now and it's going to take a second for the pitcher to reset. Through all this adversity of having to comeback, come from behind and do different things, we're starting to see what we can do on the mound and who's going to be out there."
Slate Alford, INF
On what was going through his mind during his last at-bat
"Coach gave me a good game plan and if it wasn't me, it would've been someone else so just give God the glory."
On the team's mindset when they're behind
"Just never panic. We know we're a good team and we know that we'll put it together and that's how it happens."
