Track Travels To Florida For Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia track and field teams traveled to Gainesville, Fla., to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.
This weekend will allow the Bulldogs to test out the 2024 Southeastern Conference Championship track for the first time this season. The meet will be held at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida.
Who's The Competition?: Georgia is one of 45 schools scheduled to compete in Gainesville. The Bulldogs will be joined by 11 other SEC schools, with Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M set to compete with Georgia on Florida's campus.
When Do The Bulldogs Start?: Georgia will begin competition on the track on Friday at 12 p.m. with the women's 200-meter dash featuring Karsen Phillips. Alon Rogow will compete in the pole vault at 2 p.m. in the Bulldogs' first field event of the day.
The Bulldogs will resume action on Saturday with the men's 400m, slated to begin at 10:15 a.m. with Mekhi Gammons competing. Leah Anderson and Zavien Wolfe will participate in the triple jump starting at 11:30 a.m.
Where To Catch The Action: There will be ESPN streaming coverage of both days of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Live coverage will begin on SEC Network+ at 11:45 a.m. on Friday and 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Coach Caryl's Comments: "It's warming up outside, and we are expecting our performances to parallel the weather and continue to heat up as we get closer to the postseason," said Georgia head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. "Most of the team trained through last weekend, and we are looking forward to facing some top competition at this meet. As I have said before, the goal is to put as many people as possible at NCAA Prelims, and this is a big step towards reaching that. GO DAWGS!"
What Bulldogs Are Competing?: On the women's side, Leah Anderson, Charlotte Augenstein, Aaliyah Butler, Kieley Gayle, Lorel Golden, Kimberly Harris, Sydney Harris, Kaila Jackson, Ella Kepple, Elena Kulichenko, Katherine Law, Erin McMeniman, Kelsie Murrell-Ross, Dominique Mustin, Gracie O'Neal, Nina Ouellette, Phillips, Zoe Pollock, Stephanie Ratcliffe, Haley Tate, and Autumn Wilson are set to compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
For the men, Andrew Balogh, Gavin Beverage, Logan Dingman, Ali Elashmawi, Gammons, Jehlani Gordon, Hossam Hatib, John Jessup, Wesley John, Alexander Kolesnikoff, Micah Larry, Jordan McKenzie, Marc Minichello, Christopher Morales Williams, Ryan Olree, Riyon Rankin, Rogow, Conner Rutherford, Zack Truitt, Nikolai van Huyssteen, and Wolfe will represent the Bulldogs in Gainesville.
LAST WEEK'S FLASHBACK – Hurricane Alumni Invitational (April 5-6): Two Bulldogs headed to Coral Gables, Fla., to compete in the multi-events at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Ella Rush compiled 5,180 points to finish sixth in the heptathlon while freshman Jan Duhovnik placed third with 7,071 points in his first collegiate decathlon.
Outdoor SEC Honors: Minichello was named Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week following his javelin performance at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 23. The graduate student posted a mark of 82.32 meters/270 feet, 1 inch to win the javelin throw and move into the national lead by more than 10 feet. The 2022 NCAA javelin champion is the No. 11 all-time collegiate performer and No. 2 in Georgia history in the event.
Glimpse At Where This Season Will Take The Dogs: The Bulldogs will return to Atlanta for the second time this outdoor season for the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 19-20. That meet will mark the seventh of nine scheduled regular season outdoor meets over seven weekends. Georgia will then conclude its regular season at the Music City Challenge (April 26-27) and the LSU Invitational (April 27) in the final weekend of the outdoor campaign.
The SEC Championships will arrive on May 9-11 in Gainesville, Fla., with the NCAA East Prelims scheduled for May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. The 2024 NCAA Championships return to the site of this year's U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8. The Trials will run June 21-30 at the Hayward Field facility.
