Bulldogs Open Valero Texas Collegiate in 10th

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The University of Georgia men's golf team finished the opening day of the Valero Texas Collegiate at TPC San Antonio Oaks in 10th with a score of 10-over par.
The Bulldogs shot 298 on the course's par-72, 7,042-yard layout. Junior Buck Brumlow and graduate Connor Creasy paced the team, each concluding the first day with a one-over 73. Vanderbilt holds the team lead at five-under 283, with Florida Gulf Coast and Oklahoma both tied for second place after a three-under 285 first round.
Brumlow started the day going four-over par through 15 holes but finished the round with three consecutive birdies to end the day one-over par. Creasy finished the final seven holes par-or-better to share the 73 with Brumlow, putting them both in a tie for 25th overall.
Graduate Ben van Wyk closely trailed the pair with a two-over 74, while graduate Beck Burnette and senior Caleb Manuel each posted scores of 78. Individually, Carter Loflin finished with a three-over 75, good for a tie for 42nd on the individual leaderboard.
The tournament marks the first of four fall tournaments for Georgia, who will participate in the SEC Match Play Championship at the Birmingham Country Club on Sept. 25-27. The Bulldogs will round out 2023 playing in the Ben Hogan Collegiate hosted by TCU on Oct. 2-3 and at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic hosted by Hawaii on Oct. 26-28.
The Bulldogs will return to action for round two of the Valero Texas Collegiate on Sunday morning.
