Bulldogs Stand Ninth in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The University of Georgia men's golf team ended day two of the Valero Texas Collegiate at TPC San Antonio Oaks in ninth with a score of nine-over par.
Junior Buck Brumlow had a strong showing during the second round, shooting six birdies on the front nine to finish the day with a two-under par 70. Brumlow has a combined 143 across the two days of the event and is tied for 10th place on the player leaderboard.
TCU holds the team lead with a 287-285 two round score, good for four-under par. Baylor trails the Horned Frogs by just a stroke after a 284 on Sunday, while Vanderbilt dropped two spots to third place at one-under. The Bulldogs shot 287 during the second round for a 585 total on the course's par-72, 7,042-yard layout.
Brumlow was one of four Bulldogs to shoot under par on Sunday, joined by graduate Ben van Wyk, senior Caleb Manuel and sophomore Carter Loflin. Loflin also shot a two-under 70 as an individual, while van Wyk and Manuel each carded a 71 on day two. Connor Creasy and Beck Burnette placed tied for 52nd and 61st respectively, with Creasy shooting a 78 while Burnette finished the day three-over.
The team started the day on the back nine, where Burmlow opened with a double bogey on hole 10 to put his score at two-over. After another pair of bogies and a birdie, the Cartersville native finished his first nine holes at three-over. On the front nine, the junior managed to shoot five-under par, notching six birdies, including four in a row. Brumlow rose 15 spots on the player leaderboard after a 73 during his first round.
The tournament marks the first of four fall tournaments for Georgia, who will participate in the SEC Match Play Championship at the Birmingham Country Club on Sept. 25-27. The Bulldogs will round out 2023 playing in the Ben Hogan Collegiate hosted by TCU on Oct. 2-3 and at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic hosted by Hawaii on Oct. 26-28.
The Bulldogs will close out their first tournament of the season on Monday morning for the final round of the Valero Texas Collegiate.
