Wenzel Qualifies for NCAA Championships on 1-meter

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Meghan Wenzel's sixth-place finish on 1-meter highlighted the second day of competition for the University of Georgia diving team at the 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Wenzel placed sixth in the finals with a score of 588.60, posting a score of 293.20 in the round after placing sixth in prelims with at 295.40. With the finish, the Hatfield, Pennsylvania native secured her second-consecutive 1-meter berth at NCAAs, following a 22nd-place finish at last year's meet. In finals, she opened with her top score of 52.80, remaining steady in the event before closing with a 50.70. With her qualification, she can add 3-meter and platform to her program if she places in the top 12.
Freshman Hannah Stumpf joined Wenzel in the finals, placing 17th with a score of 514.35, following an 16th-place mark of 263.90 in prelims. Mia Vallee of Miami (Fla.) finished first overall with a score of 648.60.
In the men's 3-meter prelims, sophomore Nolan Lewis finished 20th with a score of 332.95, closing out the session with a 61.20 on his final dive. Fellow sophomore Rhett Hopkins finished 23rd with a score of 324.45, eclipsing 60 points on three of his six dives.
Zones continue Tuesday with Wenzel and Stumpf competing on 3-meter, followed by the men's platform. Lewis and Hopkins will be joined in the meet by sophomore Allen Mann, who reached the platform finals at last year's Zones.
Women's action begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's competition at 4 p.m. Live coverage of the Zone B Championships will be available on SEC Network+, with live results available on DiveMeets.com.
