March 04, 2023 | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. – Following a strong dual season and multiple scoring performances at the SEC Championships, the University of Georgia diving team heads to Knoxville for the 2023 NCAA Division I Zone B Diving Championships this week at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

The Zone B Championships run Sunday, March 5 through Wednesday, March 8, beginning with the men's 1-meter at 2 p.m. on Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, the women's sessions will start at 11 a.m., followed by men's events at 4 p.m. The final day of competition will feature women's platform at 11 a.m. Live coverage of the meet will be available on SEC Network+ for all sessions except for Sunday, while live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.

During the competition, the top 18 finishers in the preliminary round will advance to the final round. The top five female and top four male divers from each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships, with remaining spots available in each event (men: seven on 1-meter, eight on 3-meter, nine on platform / women: 11 on 1-meter, nine on 3-meter, six on platform).

Six Bulldogs will compete at Zones, including three divers (Rhett Hopkins, Nolan Lewis, Meghan Wenzel) who qualified on all three events. Graduate Kevin Li and freshman Hannah Stumpf will compete on both springboards, while sophomore Allen Mann is slated to compete on 1-meter and platform. Stumpf and Wenzel are looking to join the nine women's swimmers who qualified for NCAAs this week, while the men's selections will be announced on Wednesday, March 8.

At last year's Zones, Wenzel qualified for NCAAs on 1-meter, while Lewis nearly reached NCAAs with a ninth-place finish on 3-meter. Competing for Alabama, Li reached NCAAs on 1-meter, with Mann competing in all three events for Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs are looking to continue the momentum from a solid performance at SECs, highlighted by sixth place finishes from Wenzel. Lewis took ninth on 3-meter, while Hopkins, Li, and Stumpf all scored for Georgia.

Following Zones, the women's swimming and diving team will return to Knoxville for the NCAA Women's Championships on March 15-18, followed by the NCAA Men's Championships in Minneapolis on March 22-25.
