Bulldogs Earn Pair of All-America Honors at NCAAs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Scoring in two events, the University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team continued competition Friday evening at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Eboni McCarty earned Georgia's lone individual All-America honor of the evening, finishing 14th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.89. In prelims, McCarty nearly bested her personal-best time with a 12th-place mark of 51.36.
Later in the meet, McCarty led off the All-American 400 medley relay, joining senior Zoie Hartman, graduate Callie Dickinson, and junior Sloane Reinstein to tie for 16th with a time of 3:32.29. McCarty led off with a 51.93 50 backstroke split, with Reinstein closing the race in 49.25.
In the morning session, Hartman finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.33, while Dickinson placed 25th in the 100 butterfly at 52.07 and graduate Marie Schobel finished 26th in the 100 backstroke. Senior Jillian Barczyk led a pack of three Bulldogs in the 200 freestyle with a 38th-place time of 1:46.30, with Reinstein placing 48th at 1:47.01 and sophomore Duné Coetzee following in 49th at 1:47.02.
With one day of competition remaining, Virginia holds a commanding lead with 374.5 points, followed by Texas (272.5), Stanford (239), and Louisville (191.5). Georgia currently ranks 15th with 70.5 points.
The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, platform diving, 1,650 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay. Hartman is seeded fourth in the 200 breaststroke, while sophomores Abby McCulloh, Rachel Stege, and Coetzee are top-16 in the mile. Junior Meghan Wenzel will make her second appearance of the week as she makes her NCAA debut on the tower.
Swimming prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at noon, early mile heats at 3:45 p.m., and finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the meet will stream on ESPN+, with live results available online and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
