Georgia Women Head to Knoxville for NCAA Championships

March 14, 2023 | Women's Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. – Following a successful first season for Tom Cousins Women's Swimming & Diving Head Coach Stefanie Williams Moreno, the University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team heads to the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, running this week at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The meet opens in earnest Wednesday, March 15 with the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay, followed by the full competition schedule on Thursday, March 16. For each day of action, prelims will begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at noon and finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the meet will stream on ESPN+, with live results available online and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.

Ten members of the Georgia women's team qualified for the NCAA Championships, including graduates Callie Dickinson and Marie Schobel, seniors Jillian Barczyk and Zoie Hartman, juniors Sloane Reinstein and Meghan Wenzel, and sophomores Duné Coetzee, Eboni McCarty, Abby McCulloh, and Rachel Stege. Wenzel joined the roster after finishing sixth on 1-meter and seventh on platform at last week's NCAA Zone B Championships in Knoxville.

The Bulldogs' championships roster is boosted by four relay alternates: senior Millie Sansome, junior Julianna Stephens, sophomore Briana Roberson, and freshman Elizabeth Isakson. Sansome was previously named the No. 4 meet alternate for her time in the 100 backstroke. With nine swimming selections, Georgia tied for the 10th-most of any institution and fourth-most of any SEC institution.

Georgia looks to improve upon last season's 15th-place finish in Atlanta, which featured Hartman placing fourth in the 200 IM and McCulloh finishing fifth in the 1,650 freestyle. Hartman, Coetzee, and Dickinson were also members of Georgia's fifth-place 800 freestyle relay. Entering this week's meet, Stege is the highest-seeded Bulldog, carrying the No. 2 seed in the 500 freestyle after winning the SEC title in the event. Hartman is ranked fourth in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, with McCarty (100 backstroke) and McCulloh (1,650 freestyle) both seeded ninth. Additionally, all five Georgia relays qualified for the meet, including the ninth-seeded 800 freestyle relay.
