KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With two relays earning All-America status, the University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team posted a strong opening statement Wednesday evening at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Junior Sloane Reinstein, sophomore Duné Coetzee, and seniors Jillian Barczyk and Zoie Hartman finished eighth in the 800 freestyle relay, earning First Team accolades with a time of 6:59.12. Reinstein led off with a 200 freestyle split of 1:46.19, with Hartman surging in the anchor leg with a split of 1:42.50, helping the Bulldogs clinch the second heat.
In the 200 medley relay, Hartman and Reinstein joined sophomore Eboni McCarty and graduate Callie Dickinson to finish 13th with a season-best time of 1:36.18, the fifth-fastest mark in school history. McCarty led off the relay with a personal-best 50 backstroke split of 23.60, while Reinstein closed out with a 21.86 to earn the heat victory as the Bulldogs dropped over 30 seconds from their time at the SEC Championships.
Virginia took first in both relays Wednesday, setting an NCAA and American Record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.51. The Cavaliers currently sit in first place with 80 points, followed by Texas (64) and California (56). Georgia ranks 10th heading into Thursday with 30 points.
