Georgia Finishes 16th at NCAA Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With four additional All-America citations on the evening, the University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team closed out its season Saturday evening at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
 
In the overall standings, Georgia finished 16th with 90.5 points. Virginia won its third-consecutive national championship with 541.5 points, followed by Texas (414.5), Stanford (333), and Louisville (288).
 
For the week, the Bulldogs accumulated 21 CSCAA All-America citations, including seven First Team honors. Four swimmers posted top-10 program times, while five turned in personal-best times.
 
Sophomore Rachel Stege highlighted the night with her second First Team All-America citation of the week, finishing eighth in the 1,650 freestyle with a personal-best time of 15:54.55, the fifth-fastest in school history. After staying in the middle of the pack for most of the race, Stege turned on the jets and finished the final 50 yards in 25.89, the fastest closing split of any competitor.
 
Elsewhere in the mile, fellow sophomore Abby McCulloh became an All-America for the second-consecutive year with a 12th-place time of 15:57.34. McCulloh held the lead for a long stretch, setting a new personal-best 1,000 freestyle time of 9:36.02, the fifth-fastest in school history. Duné Coetzee placed 20th in the event with a time of 16:05.42, while senior Jillian Barczyk took 39th at 16:31.11
 
In the 200 breaststroke, senior Zoie Hartman finished 14th with a time of 2:08.13, while graduate Callie Dickinson placed 16th in the 200 butterfly, closing her Bulldog career with her first NCAA individual final. Hartman and Dickinson later joined junior Sloane Reinstein and sophomore Eboni McCarty to finish 23rd in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.36.
 
In the morning session, graduate Marie Schobel concluded her collegiate career with a personal-best time of 1:53.95 in the 200 backstroke, finishing 31st overall. McCarty and junior Meghan Wenzel each finished 47th in the 100 freestyle (49.09) and platform competition (193.35).
