No. 16 Auburn Rallies to Take Series, 4-3

AUBURN, Ala. – The 15th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 16 Auburn Saturday evening at Jane B. Moore Field after the Tigers plated two runs in the sixth inning to rally past the Bulldogs.
Georgia falls to 38-13 and to 10-10 in SEC play with four games left remaining in the regular season.
For the second game in a row, senior Lacey Fincher contributed two hits, including her 16th home run of the season. Fifth-year Mackenzie Puckett also knocked her second home run of the series Saturday evening.
Georgia has now hit 93 home runs this season on the path to the program record of 99 set in 2010.
Senior Lauren Mathis worked three and a third innings in her start in the circle, striking out six Tigers, allowing two runs on four hits. Mathis held the Tigers hitless through two and two-thirds. Madison Kerpics (16-7) suffered the loss in relief, allowing the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Riley Orcutt worked an inning in between Mathis and Kerpics.
Fincher sent a two-out line drive home run over the wall in center with two out in the top of the first to put Georgia on the board, 1-0. It was her team-leading 16th home run of the season.
With two out in the second, Savana Sikes drew a walk and went first to third on a single to left from Payden Bordeau. Ellie Armistead took ball four in the dirt and the ball got away from the Auburn catcher, allowing Sikes to score and widening the lead to 2-0.
Puckett's second home run in as many days led off the fourth inning, an opposite field shot, to bring Georgia's lead to 3-0.
Auburn (39-10, 11-9) broke up the shutout in the fourth with a pair of runs. An RBI double to left plated the first run. The Tigers proceeded to load the bases with one out. Ocutt entered and got out number two on a liner back to the circle. An RBI fielder's choice to third that all runners were safe plated the second run, cutting the Georgia lead to one, 3-2.
The Tigers rallied for two runs on an RBI double and a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth to capture a 4-3 lead on the Bulldogs.
Georgia went down in order in the seventh, falling in game two.
The series finale is slated for 2 p.m., ET, Sunday afternoon in Auburn live on SEC Network+.
