Mosley Lifts Georgia to 6-3 Victory over Auburn

May 01, 2022 | Softball

AUBURN, Ala. – The 15th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs defeated No. 16 Auburn Sunday afternoon behind a four-hit, four-RBI day from junior Sara Mosley at Jane B. Moore Field.

Georgia avoided a sweep at the hands of the Tigers after falling in games one and two. The Bulldogs are now 39-13 and 11-10 in SEC play with one weekend of the regular season remaining.

Mosley concluded the day going 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Jayda Kearney and Jaiden Fields each had two hits in the game, including a home run and two RBI from Kearney.

With three home runs on the day, Georgia has hit 96 on the season, moving closer to the 2010 season record of 99.

Madison Kerpics (17-7) went the distance in the circle Sunday, working a complete game. She struck out six Tigers, allowing just one walk and three runs on five hits.

A pair of Bulldog home runs in the top of the first, a two-run shot from Mosley and a solo homer from Kearney, put Georgia ahead 3-0 in the opening frame. They were home runs number 94 and 95 on the season.

Mosley and Kearney kept the run factory open in the second, each driving in a run on singles to right-center, widening the Bulldogs' lead to 5-0.

Auburn (39-11, 11-10) broke up Kerpics' no hitter and shutout in the third inning. Following a one-out single and double, a groundout to second put the Tigers on the board, 5-1.

A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth cut Georgia's lead to three, 5-2.

The second home run of the day from Mosley extended Georgia's lead back to four in the top of the sixth, 6-2. The solo shot was her 16th home run and 50th RBI of the season.

Aspyn Godwin knocked a leadoff home run in the bottom of the seventh to bring Georgia's lead back to three, 6-3. Kerpics struck out the next three Tiger batters to close the game, securing the Bulldog win.

Georgia will wrap up the 2022 regular season next weekend at home hosting Ole Miss in a three-game series. Friday's series opener is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Jack Turner Stadium. Georgia will honor its seniors Saturday on Senior Day.
