
Five Dogs Win First-Place Honors to Highlight Opening Day of Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA --- Five Bulldogs took first-place honors during the opening day of the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta on Friday.
While the men and women's hammer throw competitions were pushed to Saturday because of inclement weather in the area, the Bulldogs had a strong showing Friday evening with four Bulldogs setting personal records.Â
On Saturday, junior Alencar Pereira and graduate transfer Ty Kunzman begin in the men's hammer throw at 9 a.m. at the George C. Griffin Track.  The first event on the track on day two is the 4x100-meter relay at 1 p.m.
Junior Ana da Silva secured first in women's shot put with a personal record throw on her third attempt of the day, measuring 16.70 meters (54ft-9.50in). Da Silva's throw launched her into the Bulldog record books with the number two all-time UGA mark in history.
Freshmen Eddiyah Frye and Noah Hayes both made their collegiate outdoor debuts, setting personal records. Frye set a personal record time of 13.68 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, clinching second. Hayes ran a personal record time of 14:46.52to secure third in the men's 5000-meter.Â
The Bulldogs swept the 100-meter with junior Brandee Presley winning the women's 100-meter and senior Delano Dunkley winning the men's 100-meter. Presley ran a time of 11.66, and Dunkley ran a personal record time of 10.24 to outpace the competition.
Anna Marian Block and Grace Clements also clinched first for the Bulldogs. Block, a senior and Athens-native, placed first in the women's 1500-meter (4:25.26) and Clements, a junior, placed first in the women's 5000-meter (17:43.66).Â
Graduate transfer Julia Harisay also notched a personal record in the women's javelin, throwing 40.41 meters (132ft-7in).
