ATHENS, Ga. – The 21st-ranked Georgia Bulldogs softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to fourth-ranked Alabama Friday evening at Jack Turner Stadium.
Freshmen Sydney Chambley and Ellie Armistead provided Georgia's offensive output, combining for three hits, two coming off the bat of Chambley.
Graduate Mary Wilson Avant (15-7) suffered the loss in the circle. Avant surrendered four runs on four hits. Freshman Britton Rogers worked a season-long 4.2 innings of scoreless softball, allowing only two hits.
The Tide (37-7, 13-6) pushed four runs across in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead, highlighted by a three-run home run by Kaylee Tow to put Alabama on the board.
Chambley led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left. She immediately came in to score on a double off the bat of Armistead down the left field line to put the Bulldogs (29-14, 7-12) on the board, 4-1.
Alabama's Montana Fouts and Rogers locked in and each pitched a shutout the rest of the game as the 4-1 tally held.
Georgia and Alabama will face off again Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN 2. Saturday is Senior Day at Jack Turner Stadium. Senior and graduate student-athletes will be honored roughly 30 minutes before first pitch.

On a recap of tonight's…
"I thought that Ellie [Armistead], our shortstop, was outstanding defensively and at the plate. I thought she had a great night for us. She had a beautiful turn-and-go and then a sweet play in the hole. She really just played her game. I thought Sydney Chambley was really great tonight with two hits at the plate, and Ellie got her in. Then I thought Britton Rogers was outstanding in the circle, coming in in relief and really shutting down [Alabama's] offense."
On what the team can take into the rest of the weekend…
"Just to continue to get grittier, get tougher and get ready to battle."
Freshman Ellie Armistead
On what she thought of her performance and the team's as a whole…
"I thought our time really played good together. We found our grit, and I think tomorrow we'll execute better on the offensive side. I think we had the energy and everything, just the outcome didn't go our way tonight."
On whether there is anything the team is looking to improve for the rest of the series…
"Probably getting our hits together and scoring more runs, but other than that, I think we did well."
