No. 19 Georgia Defeats Panthers, RedHawks Saturday in Atlanta

ATLANTA – The 19th-ranked Georgia softball team earned a pair of victories Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. Georgia no hit Georgia State in the opening game 7-0 then run-ruled Miami (Ohio) 9-1 in five innings in the final game.
The Bulldogs plated 16 runs on seven home run Saturday while the pitching staff gave up just one unearned run on three hits in 12 innings. Sophomore Sydney Kuma knocked three of Georgia's seven home runs and drove in five runs Saturday.
Georgia 7, Georgia State 0
Senior Lauren Mathis (1-1) pitched four complete innings in her start against the Panthers (6-4), striking out three and allowing no walks. Mathis was perfect through her four innings of work. Graduate Alley Cutting pitched three innings in relief en route to the three-inning save. The pair combined for the second no-hitter of the season for the Bulldogs' pitching staff and 46th in Georgia softball history.
At the plate, Georgia was led by a three-hit game by senior Jessica Morgan, a career-best. Morgan was one of three Bulldogs to hit a total of four home runs. Kuma recorded her second two-home run game of the season. Junior Lacey Fincher finished with two hits including a line drive home run to center. All of Georgia's run came via the long ball in the contest.
Kuma knocked her fourth home run of the season down the left field line to lead off the game for the Bulldogs, 1-0 Georgia early.
A pair of two-run home runs in the top of the second off the bats of Morgan and Kuma extended the Bulldogs' early advantage to 5-1.
Fincher added a two-run home run of her own in the top of the fifth to bring Georgia's lead to 7-0. The home run was Fincher's fifth of the season.
Cutting entered to pitch in the bottom of the fifth, allowing just two baserunners on a walk and an error. She finished the game in the circle to pick up the save and wrap up the no-hitter.
Georgia 9, Miami (Ohio) 1 (6 inn.)
Junior Savana Sikes and sophomore Sara Mosley provided two hits apiece in Georgia's win over Miami (3-4). Sikes, along with Kuma and freshman Sydney Chambley all hit a home run in the second game. Morgan's bat stayed hot as she also had a hit with a pair of RBI against the RedHawks.
Freshman Madison Kerpics pitched five innings in her first career start. She allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out eight RedHawk hitters.
A bobbled ball in center and an obstruction call at the plate allowed Miami to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
The Bulldogs mounted a two-out rally in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on second and third, Morgan provided a base hit up the middle to plate both runners and take a 2-1 lead. Freshman Ellie Armistead followed with her first career RBI hit to drive in Morgan. The order flipped to Kuma who blasted her third homer of the day, widening the lead to 5-1. The Dawgs strung together their five runs on six hits in the second.
A pair of wild pitches and an errant throw to third by the RedHawk catcher allowed Kuma to touch home in the fourth. Sikes immediately followed with her first home run of the season to left, adding to the lead, 7-1. Later in the inning, Mosley drove in pinch runner CJ Landrum with a double into the right center gap, 8-1.
Chambley called game when she sent a solo shot over the right centerfield wall to lead off the bottom of the fifth, enacting the run rule and securing the 9-1 win for Georgia in five innings.
Georgia will be in Atlanta again Sunday to take on rival Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets are set to begin at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
