CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. --- After falling in game one to Notre Dame, the No. 11 Georgia softball team (13-3) rebounded in game two for a victory over Northwestern to close out Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

The Bulldogs came back from a four-run deficit against the Irish (5-8), but Notre Dame responded in the sixth for a 10-7 win. Lacey Sumerlin broke up a scoreless game against Northwestern (1-9) to guide Georgia to a 2-0 victory.

Against the Wildcats, a pitchers' duel was happening going into the fifth before Sumerlin ended the scoreless drought with a leadoff home run. The Mobile, Alabama native followed that up with another RBI in her next at-bat in the sixth, allowing Maeve McGuire to score after she started the frame with a double.

Sumerlin and Mahlena O'Neal tabbed two hits apiece in the game. Brittany Gray (8-1) earned the win, coming in to pitch the final four innings with two hits and three strikeouts to her line. Mary Wilson Avant started the game, tossing three hitless frames.

In game one, Georgia fell behind 5-1 going to the fifth, but rallied to knot it up. Alyssa DiCarlo highlighted the inning with a three-run home run to push her season total to eight on the year. The Bulldogs then pulled ahead in the next inning with Justice Milz hitting her first home run, a two-run shot to make it 7-5.

However, Notre Dame responded with a five-run sixth, capitalizing on four hits and an error, to claim the victory.

Georgia finished the contest with nine hits, led by senior Sydni Emanuel's 3-for-4 effort. Freshmen Ciara Bryan and Milz tabbed a pair of hits each. Avant (1-2) took the loss after going two innings of relief with five hits and three runs allowed.

The weekend in California concludes on Saturday with an 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT game against Cal State Fullerton. Fans can watch online with a subscription to FloSoftball.com or keep up with live stats via georgiadogs.com.
