QUICK KICKS
Rivalry Renewed
No. 17 Georgia returns home to kick off a huge weekend in Athens with a rivalry matchup against Florida Friday evening. The Bulldogs and Gators have turned in scoreless ties in each of the past seasons, but Georgia is on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the rivalry following a 2-30-1 start to the series. Georgia, which moved up four spots in the United Soccer Coaches rankings, has posted a 3-0 start in SEC play for the first time since 2007 and a victory Friday will give it a 4-0 open for the first time in program history and clinch a four-match league winning streak for the first time since 2011. The Bulldogs are currently tied with Arkansas for first place in the SEC after their win at Ole Miss, while the Gators tied South Carolina, 0-0, in Gainesville.
Â
Honorable Mentions
Following wins over Kentucky and Ole Miss, Georgia received a pair of major awards this week. First, freshman Hailey Gordon was named SEC Freshman of the Week after turning in a brace at Ole Miss, becoming the third Bulldog to receive an SEC weekly honor this week. On Tuesday, Hardin was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week after tallying three assists in the two matches, including setting up Ava Stack's winner against Kentucky. Hardin was named to the TDS National Team honorable mention the previous week after three points at Texas A&M. She also holds the SEC lead for assists in league contests with four.
Â
Delayed Domination
Georgia extended its road unbeaten streak to nine straight with a 4-1 win at Ole Miss Sunday, earning its first win in Oxford since 2012. The Bulldogs overcame a 152-minute weather delay to blow past the Rebels, scoring four goals in a conference match for the first time since a 4-3 win against Florida on Oct. 21, 2021. Assa Kante picked up the winner with her first goal as a Bulldog, while Hailey Gordon earned a brace with her first two career goals. Gordon's brace was the first multi-goal effort since Dani Murguia scored twice in the aforementioned Florida match. Summer Denigan also scored her eighth goal of the season, assisted by Cate Hardin, who also set up Gordon's second score.
Â
Bulldog Burst
After two seasons of diminished offensive output, Georgia's offense has bounced back with a terrific first 11 matches. The Bulldogs have scored 27 goals, ranking 11th nationally, while carrying a goal differential of +22 that ranks fifth nationally. At the same point in 2024, the Georgia attack had only mustered 21 goals with just a +10 differential. Individually, Summer Denigan ranks sixth nationally and first in the SEC with eight goals, while Cate Hardin is just one assist away from becoming the first Bulldog with five assists in conference play since Randi-Lynn Bruso and Kelly Whitaker in 2006.
