Bulldogs Head To Raleigh, LSU For Weekend Meets

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's track and field teams will split up for the first time this outdoor season to compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State, and the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La., this weekend.
 
A group of distance runners will compete during the first two days of the Raleigh Relays on Thursday-Friday, March 28-29, at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility on the campus of NC State. The Battle on the Bayou will take place on Friday-Saturday, March 29-30, at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
 
This weekend marks the first of two times the Bulldogs will travel to LSU this season. Georgia will close the regular season in Baton Rouge at the LSU Invitational on April 27.
 
Who's The Competition?: The Distance Dawgs will join numerous teams from all over the country in Raleigh. Meanwhile, Georgia is one of 16 teams set to compete at LSU. The field includes eight teams representing the SEC, with Alabama, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M joining the Bulldogs in Baton Rouge. Other squads competing include Baylor, Clemson, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, St. Norbert, and Wisconsin.
 
When Do The Bulldogs Start?: Georgia will begin Thursday's competition at the Raleigh Relays with the men's 1500-meter run featuring Andrew Balogh, Logan Dingman, Conner Rutherford, and Zack Truitt. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:35 p.m. ET.
 
On Friday, Dominique Mustin and Zoe Pollock will run the 400-meter hurdles to open Georgia's day on the track at the Battle on the Bayou at 6:10 p.m. ET. Long jumpers Micah Larry, Zavien Wolfe, and Leah Anderson will participate in the Bulldogs' first field events of the day at 7 p.m.
 
Where To Catch The Action: There will be ESPN streaming coverage of the Raleigh Relays beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The Battle on the Bayou will not be live streamed.

Coach Caryl's Comments: "We are beginning to get into the groove of the outdoor season following some promising performances in Miami," said Georgia Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert. "This weekend we will send the distance runners to Raleigh, and then a variety of other event groups to Baton Rouge. Marc, Elena and a couple others began to build the foundation that we need last weekend, and we are looking for more on the track this coming weekend. Like usual, we are optimistic for better weather, and sure that the level of competition will bring out the best in our team. GO DAWGS!"
 
What Bulldogs Are Competing?: Distance runners Charlotte Augenstein, Lorel Golden, Gracie O'Neal, Nina Ouellette, Balogh, Dingman, Wesley John, Ryan Olree, Kushan Patel, Rutherford, and Truitt will represent the Bulldogs at the Raleigh Relays.
 
For the women, Anderson, Bella Brick, Aaliyah Butler, Daszay Freeman, Kieley Gayle, Sydney Harris, Kaila Jackson, Ella Kepple, Elena Kulichenko, Katherine Law, Erin McMeniman, Kelsie Murrell-Ross, Mustin, Karsen Phillips, Pollock, Haley Tate, and Autumn Wilson will participate in the Battle on the Bayou.
 
Gavin Beverage, Luke Churchwell, Ali Elashmawi, Jehlani Gordon, Hossam Hatib, John Jessup, Chance Jones, Luke Kalarickal, Alexander Kolesnikoff, Larry, Jordan McKenzie, Christopher Morales Williams, Ethan Nordman, Riyon Rankin, Alon Rogow, Nikolai van Huyssteen, and Wolfe will represent the men's squad in Baton Rouge.
 
LAST WEEK'S FLASHBACK – Hurricane Collegiate Invitational (March 23): The Bulldogs braved rainy conditions during their first trip of the season to Coral Gables, Fla, on Saturday, bringing home several victories and shaking up the Georgia record books at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational. Graduate student Marc Minichello cemented himself as the No. 11 all-time collegiate performer and No. 2 in Georgia history in the javelin throw, recording a winning throw of 82.32 meters/270 feet, 1 inch to earn Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week honors. 
 
Elena Kulichenko (high jump), Aaliyah Butler (200m), Micah Larry (long jump), and the men's 4x400m relay team of Jordan McKenzie, Jehlani Gordon, Larry, and Christopher Morales Williams also earned wins in Florida while Charlotte Augenstein clocked the No. 4 time in school history in the 800m to post a runner-up finish.
 
Outdoor SEC Honors: Minichello was named Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week following his javelin performance at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 23. The graduate student posted a mark of 82.32 meters/270 feet, 1 inch to win the javelin throw and move into the national lead by more than 10 feet. The 2022 NCAA javelin champion is the No. 11 all-time collegiate performer and No. 2 in Georgia history in the event. 
 
Glimpse At Where This Season Will Take The Dogs: The multi-event athletes will return to Coral Gables, Fla., for the second and final time this season on April 5-6 to compete at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. That meet will mark the fifth of nine scheduled regular season outdoor meets over seven weekends.  

The SEC Championships will arrive on May 9-11 in Gainesville, Fla., with the NCAA East Prelims scheduled for May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. The 2024 NCAA Championships return to the site of this year's U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8. The Trials will run June 21-30 at the Hayward Field facility.
