March 26, 2024 | Swimming & Diving, Men's Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ga. – Following a third-place finish at the SEC Championships, the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team travels north for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, running March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium.
The meet opens in earnest on Wednesday with the 200y medley relay and 800y freestyle relay, followed by the full competition slate on Thursday, March 28. For each day of action, prelims will begin at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at noon, diving consolation at 5:15 p.m., and finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage of the meet will stream on ESPN+, with live results available on https://gado.gs/ncaamsd24 and to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
Ten members of the Georgia men's team qualified for the NCAA Championships, including graduates Dillon Downing and Bradley Dunham, fifth-year seniors Ian Grum and Zach Hils, senior Jake Magahey, juniors Reese Branzell and Allen Mann, sophomores Sam Powe and Ruard van Renen, and freshman Tomas Koski. Mann joined the roster after finishing ninth on platform at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in Athens. This is the fourth career NCAA appearance for Downing, Dunham, Grum, Hils, and Magahey, second for Branzell and van Renen, and first for Koski, Mann, and Powe.
The Bulldogs' championship roster is boosted by four relay alternates: graduate Miles Simon, seniors Connor Haigh and Wesley Ng, and junior Arie Voloschin. Ng is making his third NCAA appearance, Haigh and Voloschin their second, while Simon is debuting at nationals.
Georgia looks to improve upon its 12th-place finish in Minneapolis, which featured pairs of First Team All-America citations for Grum and Magahey. Entering this meet, Magahey is the highest-seeded Bulldog, holding the No. 3 rank in the 500y freestyle, an event he won the SEC championship in last month, along with the eighth seed in the 400y IM and 15th seed in the 200y butterfly. Dunham is seeded fourth in the 200y backstroke and 10th in the 100y backstroke, while Grum is fifth in the 400y IM and seventh in the 200y backstroke.
In other events, van Renen is ranked sixth in the 100y backstroke, an event he took the consolation title in last season, in addition to the 14th seed in the 200y back. Branzell and Koski are both seeded ninth in the 100y and 200y freestyle respectively. The Bulldogs' 800y freestyle relay, runner-up at SECs, is seeded third overall at NCAAs.
