Bulldogs Post Pair of All-American Relays on Opening Night of NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS – Boosted by the third-fastest 800-yard freestyle relay in program history, the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team posted a strong opening night Wednesday at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium.
In the 800y free relay, freshman Tomas Koski, senior Jake Magahey, fifth-year Zach Hils, and graduate Bradley Dunham finished fifth overall with a time of 6:08.13, picking up First Team All-America honors with the third-fastest mark in program history. Koski led off with an opening 200y free split of 1:32.95, followed by a 1:31.57 split from Magahey. Hils then led the comeback with a 1:32.33 split with Dunham closing in a season-best 1:31.28 to finish fourth in the third heat.
Earlier in the evening, Dunham, junior Arie Voloschin, senior Wesley Ng, and fellow graduate Dillon Downing earned Second Team All-America citations with a 14th-place time of 1:23.12, the fifth-fastest in program history. Dunham led off with an opening 50y backstroke of 21.08, while Downing anchored with a 18.43 freestyle split.
Following the first night of competition, Georgia sits in eighth place overall with 34 points.
The NCAA Championships kick into full gear Thursday with the 500y freestyle, 200y IM, 50y freestyle, 1-meter diving, and 200y freestyle relay. Magahey is seeded third in the 500y freestyle, the event he won the SEC championship in last month. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage will stream on ESPN+ with results available on GeorgiaDogs.com.
