Bulldogs Earn Nine All-America Citations on Second Day of NCAAs

ATHENS, Ga. – Three podium trips from the distance group highlighted the second day of competition Thursday for the University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
In the 500-yard freestyle, three junior Bulldogs earned First Team All-America honors, led by Abby McCulloh in sixth place with a time of 4:37.13. In prelims, McCulloh set a new personal best time of 4:36.40. Rachel Stege (7th – 4:37.26) and Duné Coetzee (8th – 4:40.08) repeated as First Team honorees with their performances in the final.
Fifth-year Zoie Hartman became the fifth women's swimmer in program history to earn 28 All-America citations as she finished 12th in the 200y IM with a time of 1:54.50. Senior Meghan Wenzel earned her first career All-America award with a 15th-place score of 278.85 on 1-meter.
In the closing 200y freestyle relay, freshman Helena Jones, senior Julianna Stephens, and juniors Briana Roberson and Eboni McCarty also earned All-America status with a 14th-place time of 1:27.77, the seventh-fastest mark in program history and fastest swim in the event since the 2016 NCAA Championships.
In prelims action, senior Sloane Reinstein finished 24th in the 500y freestyle at 4:40.69, followed by sophomore Shea Furse in 36th place at 4:42.30. McCarty tied for 40th in the 50y freestyle with a time of 22.23, while Jones tied for 53rd at 22.52.
Through two days of competition, Georgia stands in 10th place with 75 points.
The NCAA Championships continue Friday with the 400y IM, 100y butterfly, 200y freestyle, 100y breaststroke, 100y backstroke, 3-meter diving, and 400y medley relay. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by senior Meghan Wenzel in diving prelims at noon, diving consolation finals at 5:15 p.m. and the full finals session at 6 p.m. Live coverage will stream on ESPN+ with results available on GeorgiaDogs.com.
