March 22, 2024 | Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. – With the two fastest swims of her career, junior Eboni McCarty earned a pair of All-America citations on the third night of competition at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

McCarty finished 10th in the 100-backstroke with a personal-best time of 51.00 in the consolation final, maintaining her spot as the second-fastest performer in program history. She also entered the program's top 10 at No. 8, becoming the first swimmer other than Olivia Smoliga to rank in the event's top 10. She also tied Smoliga for the third-fastest 100y back relay leadoff in program history.

Later in the evening session, McCarty joined fifth-year Zoie Hartman, sophomore Emma Norton, and freshman Helena Jones to tie for 16th in the 400y medley relay with a time of 3:29.98, tying for sixth all-time in program history. McCarty led off the relay with a split of 51.01, the second-fastest swim of her career, while Jones closed with a 47.37 anchor. Hartman earned her 29th career All-America citation in the process, becoming the most-honored Bulldog in program history.

In prelims, Hartman placed 20th in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 59.46, while sophomore Shea Furse led the pack in the 200y freestyle with a time of 1:44.45. On 3-meter, senior Meghan Wenzel closed out her Georgia career with a 34th-place mark of 258.50.

With one day of competition remaining, Georgia sits in 13th place with 83 points and will battle a host of teams for a top-10 finish on Saturday.

The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday with the 1,650y freestyle, 200y backstroke, 100y freestyle, 200y breaststroke, 200y butterfly, platform diving, and 400y freestyle relay. Junior Abby McCulloh is seeded first in the mile as the Bulldogs look to win their first individual NCAA title since 2016. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by early mile heats at 3:45 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Live coverage will stream on ESPN+ with results available on GeorgiaDogs.com.
