Georgia Women Earn Three Medals on Penultimate Night of SECs

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Highlighted by three more trips to the podium for the women's team, the University of Georgia men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued competition at the 2023 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the Texas A&M Campus Recreation Center Natatorium.
Graduate Callie Dickinson opened the evening in style, earning the silver medal in the women's 200 butterfly with a B-cut time of 1:54.63, holding off a late charge to reach the podium for the second-consecutive year. In the next event, sophomore Eboni McCarty picked up the bronze with a personal-best time of 51.35, moving into second all-time in school history in the event.
The hardware parade concluded with senior Zoie Hartman, who finished second in the women's 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 58.65, extending her streak of top-two finishes in SEC individual races to 11. In the closing 400 medley relay, Dickinson, McCarty, and Hartman joined graduate Marie Schobel to finish fourth with a season-best A-cut of 3:31.01.
In the platform diving competition, junior Meghan Wenzel placed sixth with a score of 255.40. Wenzel was outstanding from the 10-meter platform, posting scores of 75.0, 56.0, and 68.15 on her three dives from the height. In prelims, Wenzel finished eighth with a score of 248.80, while freshman Hannah Stumpf took 24th at 183.00.
On the men's side, senior Bradley Dunham continued his strong week with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, turning in a time of 45.44. In prelims, Dunham moved into fourth all-time with a PB of 45.23. Dunham was one of five Bulldogs to score in the 100 back, including teammate Wesley Ng, who took sixth with a time of 45.71.
In the 200 butterfly, graduate Andrew Abruzzo placed eighth with a B-cut of 1:43.63, following a PB of 1:42.57 in the morning session. Sophomore Peter Sacca finished 16th with a time of 1:45.65. Finally, in the 100 breaststroke, junior Connor Haigh placed 19th with a personal-best B-cut of 53.33, making him the 10th-fastest performer in school history.
In the 400 medley relay, Ng and Sacca joined freshman Kristian Pitshugin and senior Dillon Downing for a seventh-place time of 3:07.41, tying the Bulldogs' season-best mark from November.
Entering the final day of competition, both Georgia squads rank fifth, with the women looking to potentially move into the top four with a strong closing Saturday.
The SEC Championships conclude Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 1,650 freestyle, men's platform, and 400 freestyle relay. Swimming prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. EST, followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m., early mile heats at 4:30 p.m., and finals at 6:30 p.m. Live coverage of the meet is available on SEC Network+.
