Grum Earns 400 IM Bronze on Third Night of SECs

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Ian Grum reached the 400 IM podium for the third-consecutive year as the University of Georgia men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued competition at the 2023 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Texas A&M Campus Recreation Center Natatorium.
Grum took third in the IM with a B-cut time of 3:41.71, earning his third-straight medal in the event following a bronze in 2021 and silver in 2022. The Atlanta native led the race through the first two legs and closed out with a 25.58 100 freestyle split. Also in the 400 IM, siblings Andrew and Mia Abruzzo both competed in the C finals, with Andrew finishing 18th at 3:46.41 and Mia placing 21st at 4:13.99.
The Bulldogs also earned a pair of consolation final victories in the 200 freestyle. Senior Jillian Barczyk continued her outstanding meet with a personal-best time of 1:45.79, followed by junior Sloane Reinstein in 12th place with her PB of 1:46.01. In the men's B final, junior Jake Magahey touched first with a season-best time of 1:32.42, joined by teammates Zach Hils and Mitchell Norton. Senior Bradley Dunham placed seventh in the A final with a time of 1:33.76, following a PB of 1:33.07 in the morning, placing him fourth all-time in school history.
In the women's 100 butterfly, graduate Callie Dickinson moved into 10th all-time with a personal-best time of 52.02, finishing seventh in the event. On the men's side, sophomore Peter Sacca also reached 10th all-time with a B-cut of 46.40, placing 13th overall. Junior Wesley Ng followed right behind with a 14th-place time of 46.46.
At the diving well, sophomore Nolan Lewis finished ninth with a score of 341.15, narrowly missing the championship final. Graduate Kevin Li placed 22nd with a score of 283.45, followed by sophomore Rhett Hopkins in 26th at 249.80.
Following the successful second day, the Georgia women moved up to fourth place with 329 points, while the men's team ranks fifth with 268.5 points.
The SEC Championships continue Friday with the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, women's platform, and 400 medley relay. Swimming prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. EST, followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. Live coverage of the meet is available on SEC Network+.
