April 15, 2022 | Track & Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Georgia's track and field teams had season-best and notable national performances in a variety of events to start the Tom Jones Memorial on Friday.
A trio of highlights stood out after day one for the Bulldogs. Sixth-year senior Darius Carbin made his first appearance since the 2021 outdoor season and matched the nation's fifth-best high jump to take second.
Junior Caleb Cavanaugh completed his one lap around the track in the 400-meter hurdles with the fastest time of his career (No. 11 in NCAA) to be the second collegiate finisher.
Senior Ahmed Magour returned to where he made his UGA career debut weeks earlier and left with the longest throw of his Bulldog career to take third.

The Lowdown: Carbin, a native San Jose, Calif., went over the bar at 2.21 meters/7 feet, 3 inches on his second try. This equaled his personal record that is tied for 10th in school history. Carbin was injured during the 2021 Spec Towns Invitational and recently earned his eligibility back for the 2022 campaign.
Cavanaugh, who was fourth overall in the hurdles race, ran a 50.04 to knock of his previous No. 5 spot in the Bulldog record books and inch closer to the sub-50 zone.
Magour worked up to a fifth toss in the javelin of 71.52m/234-7 for bronze honors, edging up his last performance by five inches. His toss bettered his former No. 9 spot on Georgia's all-time top-10 list.
Igberaese surged into the No. 5 spot in the school record books in the discus following her third attempt. That try measured 51.94m/170-5 for the Dacula, Ga., native. Graduate transfer Julia Harisay improved her No. 10 spot in the school record books after reaching 48.46m/158-8 in the event.
On the track, senior Sam Bowers posted a season-best 1500 meters time of 3:44.78 to take third place.
Staying above 20 feet, senior Titiana Marsh managed a sixth-place finish in the long jump after soaring 6.23m/20-5.25.
Also of note, senior Johannes Erm launched the longest discus toss of his career (46.77m/153-5) and junior Kyle Garland unleashed the top mark of his career in the javelin (57.57m/188-10), finishing one spot from making the finals.
