The 16th-ranked Georgia softball team will host its final home tournament of the season at Jack Turner Stadium this weekend, hosting the UGA Classic. Dartmouth, Illinois, and Mercer will come to Athens for the eight-game tournament.Â

Georgia will take on Dartmouth Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's tilt features Georgia taking on Illinois and Mercer before a rematch with Dartmouth on Sunday to end the UGA Classic.

The Bulldogs welcome No. 17 Clemson for a midweek matchup next Wednesday, March 23. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. live on SEC Network. Georgia then welcomes Texas A&M comes to town for a three-game SEC series April 25-27.Â

Georgia dropped a 12-3 decision to in-state rival Georgia Tech Tuesday at in five innings. Junior Sydney Kuma and sophomore Sydney Chambley each had two hits in the game. Kuma along with sophomore Jayda Kearney each hit a home run in the contest. Senior Lacey Fincher was on base three times after being hit by a pitch all three plate appearances.Â

Coaching Connection
Illinois associate head coach Laura Trout will return to Athens this weekend with the Fighting Illini. Trout was a shortstop for the Bulldogs in 2010 and 2011. She helped guide Georgia to the 2010 WCWS. Trout served as a student assistant in 2012 when Georgia advanced to the Super Regional round while completing her bachelor's degree in journalism.

Bulldogs' Win Streak One for the Record Book
The Bulldogs strung together a 16-game win streak from Feb. 19 to March 12. The streak checks in tied for sixth-longest in program history, matching streaks from 2021, 2013, and 2008. Georgia's longest winning streak was 25 games set in 2001-02 and 2018.Â

Dogs Dig the Long Ball
Georgia slugged 16 home runs in five games of the Bulldog Classic (3/4-3/6). Prior to the weekend, Georgia ranked 18th in the country with 1.31 home runs per game. After the weekend, the Bulldogs skyrocketed to fifth nationally and first in the SEC with a 1.76 average. That number continued to rise after eight home runs at South Carolina to 1.93, third in the nation. Georgia's .685 slugging percentage ranks second in the country behind Oklahoma.Â

Georgia in the Polls
Georgia fell a spot to No. 16 in the Week Five USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. Georgia dropped two spots spot in the ESPN/USA Softball poll to 21. Georgia debuted at No. 43 in the initial RPI rankings but jumped to 28 following an SEC series win at South Carolina.Â

Kearney Earns SEC, National Player of the Week
Jayda Kearney was named the SEC and DI Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week following a tremendous performance during the Bulldog Classic. Kearney hit .727 (8-for-11) in five games of the Bulldog Classic. She slugged 2.000 knocking four home runs and a triple, recording 22 total bases. She drove in 12 runs and scored six times. She concluded the week with a .769 on base clip with no strikeouts. Kearney become the first Bulldog to be recognized nationally since 2014 when now-assistant coach Chelsea Wilkinson earned the award back-to-back weeks. This is the seventh time a Bulldog has earned the title.
