Georgia opened its home schedule hosting the Red & Black Showcase at Jack Turner Stadium last weekend. The Bulldogs picked up wins over Delaware and Boston as well as a pair of run-rule victories over Purdue. Georgia scored 40 runs, allowing just two runs in the final three games of the tournament. The offense added 10 home runs, three triples, and nine doubles to its season totals, slugging .774 as a team and hitting over .400.Â

Armistead Has Huge Offensive Weekend
Sophomore shortstop Ellie Armistead put together a strong offensive weekend at the Red & Black Showcase. Armistead hit .615 (8-for13) with three home runs and a pair of triples, slugging 1.615. She touched home eight times herself and drove in seven runs on the weekend. She had a career game against Delaware, recording three hits: two home runs and a triple, with four RBI.Â

Georgia Shows Aggressiveness on Base Paths
The Bulldogs have stolen a total of 17 bases in just 11 games this season. Georgia's 1.55 stolen bases per game ranks fourth in the SEC. This season's count is already more than halfway to last season's 30 total stolen bases.Â

Georgia in the Polls
Georgia came in at No. 15 in the Week Two USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. Georgia stayed at constant in the ESPN/USA Softball and D1Softball polls at No. 18 and 19, respectively. The Bulldogs dropped four spots to No. 20 in the Softball America poll.Â

The Baldwin Era Begins
Tony Baldwin was announced the next head coach of the Georgia softball program on June 21, 2021. Baldwin is the third head coach in the 26-year history of Georgia softball. This is Baldwin's first head coaching job. He served on the Georgia coaching staff under Lu Harris-Champer for nine seasons. During Baldwin's tenure on staff, Georgia has appeared in eight NCAA Tournaments (no tournament in 2020). The Bulldogs have advanced to six Super Regionals and three appearances in the Women's College World Series (2016, 2018, 2021). The Bulldogs are one of eight teams to make three or more appearances in Oklahoma City in the last five World Series.

Fincher Tabbed Preseason All-SEC
The head softball coaches of the SEC tabbed Georgia senior first baseman Lacey Fincher Preseason All-SEC. Fincher was Georgia's top hitter in 2021, registering a .345 average, knocking 15 home runs and driving in 37 runs. She boasted a .734 slugging percentage with a .511 on base clip including 42 walks on the season. Fincher earned 2021 NFCA All-Southeast Region honors as a junior.Â
