Track Concludes Indoor Regular Season At USC Indoor Open
February 17, 2022 | Track & Field
ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's track and field teams are scheduled to make their first and only trip of the year to Columbia, S.C., for Friday's USC Indoor Open.
Â
This marks the final indoor regular season meet before the Southeastern Conference Championships arrive in College Station, Texas, on Feb. 25-26.
Â
A series of Georgia competitors in field events begin the meet at 10 a.m.
Â
Fresh Rankings: The Bulldog men surged to second in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.  This is their top ranking since the Georgia men held the No. 2 ranking on March 4, 2018, prior to the NCAA Championships.  That year, the Bulldogs finished third nationally while the Lady Bulldogs captured the program's first national championship indoors.
Â
The Competition: Georgia and meet host South Carolina will join representatives from approximately 22 other institutions at the USC Indoor Open.

Â
Coach Caryl's Comments: "The plan from the beginning was to take a much smaller group to this final tune-up and now we will be aiming for them to make their last adjustments prior to the start of the postseason," said head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert.  "While the rest of our teams will train through the weekend, this group will attempt to be as sharp as possible for the final three weeks of the indoor season. I am confident that those competing will make the best out of another opportunity to gain valuable meet and competition experience."
Â
Who's Competing: Ten Georgia women and four Bulldog men are scheduled to travel to the Gamecocks' campus.  The Lady Bulldogs making the trip are: graduate transfer Jayla Kirkland, seniors Imani Carothers, Titiana Marsh, Anna Marian Block, Destiny Jackson, juniors Brandee Presley, da Silva, redshirt sophomores Igberaese, Anderson and freshman Eddiyah Frye.
Â
Graduate transfer Ty Kunzman, senior Alencar Pereira, sophomore Beverage and freshman Bryce McCray are scheduled to compete for the Bulldogs.
Â
Where Does The Indoor Season Take The Dogs: Following the weekend regular season finale, the postseason begins with the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas, on Feb. 25-26.  Georgia will return to Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12 for the NCAA Indoor Championships.  One week later, the outdoor season cranks up in Atlanta.
