Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 7 Georgia women's tennis team concluded its first competition of the 2021 spring season with three more wins at the FSU invitational Sunday morning.
Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma paired up for doubles defeated Victoria Allen and Alice Amendola of Florida State, 6-1. In singles, Elena Christofi took down Lara Schneider of Florida State 6-4, 6-3 and Ania Hertel bested Amendola 6-0, 6-2.
"We were able to accomplish the goals we set at the beginning of the weekend," Associate Head Coach Drake Bernstein said. "We were aiming to grow together as a team, practice fighting for each other and to have fun. We grew on the doubles court with several pairings. Meg and Lea were particularly impressive, showing great energy together."
"Yesterday Alee [Clayton] saved match points in singles and doubles and in three separate sets. She's competing and coming into her own on court."
"Ania had a strong finish to the weekend today, playing aggressive and intense from the start of the day. Both Elena and Morgan [Coppoc] are really hitting their strides and building every day. We laid a strong foundation this weekend and are excited about heading into the dual match season together."
20 singles and doubles wins were collected throughout the weekend against No. 9 Florida State and Clemson.
The Bulldogs will begin dual play on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. against Georgia State at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
