BISHOP, Ga. ---
The No. 3 Georgia equestrian team fell to the top ranked Auburn Tigers, 12-8, on a snow covered Saturday afternoon at the UGA equestrian Complex.

Highlighting the meet was senior Maddy Darst winning Most Outstanding Performance honors in Fences after earning a score of 90 for her ride. This is the third time Darst has achieved this high mark and the tenth time she earned MOP honors for her Fences ride as a Bulldog.

"What a great fight from all of our riders, team in every sense," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "Attitude was perfect. Effort was fantastic. A lot of really close spots. I can just see how much better we are getting, and how close we were to getting this. Really bittersweet because it was so close, but it shows that we are on the right path. A lot of good things to build from today."

The Bulldogs jumped to an early lead in Fences, edging the Tigers by one point. After Auburn won the first two points of the event, Georgia claimed the next three.  Senior Maddy Darst scored a 90 to better her opponent's score of 86 and win the first Bulldog point of the day. Freshman Rachel McMullen defeated Auburn's Ava Stearns by one point, 80-79, and senior Ali Tritschler closed the event with an 89 to top Meghan Knapic's 87.

In Horsemanship, the teams alternated points with Auburn coming away with the slight advantage. The Tigers' Deanna Green earned the first point before sophomore Kaitlin Dierks grabbed a point for Georgia over Kara Kaufmann, 73-72.  Auburn won another point and then senior Maddie Fiorante edged her opponent, 74-73, to claim a point for the Bulldogs. The Tigers won the last point of the event.

The Bulldogs and Tigers were knotted at five points each after two events.

Auburn took the lead in Flat, 4-1. The Tigers won three points before Tritschler defeated McKayla Langmeier, 86-79, for the Bulldogs' lone point of the event. The last ride of Flat went to the Tigers as well.

After alternating point again in Reining, the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs, 3-2.  Auburn claimed the point and then senior Jordan Carpenter added one for UGA.  Another point was awarded for the Tigers and then senior Annabeth Payne edged her opponent by half a point to add to Georgia's total. Auburn won the final point of the day.

Georgia takes competition back on the road in Columbia, S.C., to face No. 4 South Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1:00 p.m.
