COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After concluding competition tied at nine points each, the third-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team fell to No. 6 Texas A&M in raw score, 1539.5-1519, at the Hildebrand Equine Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The last time the Bulldogs had a meet determined by raw score during the regular season was November 19, 2016 at Oklahoma State.
Senior Ali Tritschler earned Most Outstanding Performance honors in Fences after scoring an 84. This is her second MOP honor in Fences this season.
"Texas A&M is a great team and we knew this was going to be a hard battle," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "Whenever it comes down to raw score it means the entire team counts into everything that we have. Unfortunately we came up short n raw score. That means it also hurts that much more across the board- anything that was close or where were those little moments could be. I think this is great preparation for the week coming up. It was the fire and heat we need. We will clean it up and go strong in our work this week."
Tritschler handed Georgia (4-2, 1-2 SEC) the first point of the meet for her ride in Fences defeating her opponent 84-78. Senior Kate Kramer earned another point for the Bulldogs scoring an 80 for her ride. The Aggies responded notching the next two points, tying the score, 2-2. Senior Maddy Darst secured the advantage in the event for Georgia ousting Caroline Dance 86-85.
Texas A&M (2-3, 1-2 SEC) claimed the first three points in Horsemanship taking the lead, 5-3. Junior Lexie Lane and senior Maddie Fiorante won the following two points to tie up the score, 5-5, at the half.
After Tritshler pushed the first point in Flat with a score of 78, the Bulldogs and Aggies split the rest of the rides. Darst gave Georgia a point with a score of 82, before the Aggies tied it back up. Texas A&M claimed the next point, before Grace Bridges evened the score once again. Competition was tied 7-7 with one event remaining.
To finish the day in Reining, Georgia and Texas A&M split the points, two each. The Aggies claimed the first point, before the teams pushed the next point. Texas A&M held a 9-7 advantage, but Georgia's Julia Spreng and Lindsay Guynn won their rides to tie the final score at nine points each.
Next, Georgia hosts No. 1 Auburn at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
