November 07, 2019 | Equestrian
ATHENS, Ga. – The second-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team travels for the first time this season to Fresno, Calif., for back-to-back meets versus No. 6 Fresno State and No. 7 Baylor University on Friday and Saturday.
Georgia (2-1, 1-1 SEC) will take on the Fresno State Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 Big 12) before battling Baylor University Bears (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) on the 'Dogs' home arena.
Fresno State defeated two top-three teams, No. 2 Texas A&M (11-9) and No. 3 Oklahoma State (14-5) in October. The 'Dogs swept western Big 12 October Rider of the Month honors, Nicole Campbell (Horsemanship) and Bailey Alexander (Reining). Campbell earned her first Big 12 honor after a 3-0 record in the month of October. Alexander matched Campbell's undefeated record for October after her first collegiate ride on Oct. 4 versus Texas Christian University (TCU) that tabbed her Reining Most Outstanding Performance (MOP) honors.
Baylor dropped an 11-5 decision in its Big 12 opener at then-No. 3 Oklahoma State. The Bears bounced back to defeat then-No. 4 TCU. Two Bears' riders, Gia Gulino and Carly Salter, earned MOP honors for their rides in Fences and Reining, respectively.
The Bulldogs will conclude the fall portion of their 2019-20 campaign in Auburn, Ala., at undefeated, top-ranked Auburn University on Friday, Nov. 15. Georgia will start back competition in College Station, Texas, versus Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 1.
