ATHENS, Ga. — Morgan Reynolds' junior season did not go as planned.

The rising senior missed most of the 2016 slate after battling complications that stemmed from E. Coli that forced her out of action from November through the first 11 meets of the year.

Showing persistence and determination, Reynolds earned a spot in the floor lineup for the team's final five meets of the year and won the team's Most Inspirational Performance Award for her first routine of the season.

Reynolds, an Athens native who took home the UGA Athletics Inspiration Award and was one of three finalists for the Honda Inspiration Award, took time from her summer training for a quick Q&A with georgiadogs.com.

Q: Where are you currently training?
Reynolds: I am training in Athens all summer.

Q: Looking back at last season, what's the biggest lesson that you hope to carry into the upcoming year?
Reynolds: One thing we focused on last year was letting our "why" be greater than our fear while we were competing. In other words, we were competing for each other. By the end of season we started competing with this mentality and I think we were more successful. I want to carry that mind set into this upcoming season.

Q: Have you been learning any new skills this summer?
Reynolds: Yes! I am working on a bar combination: jaeger + over shoot!
And on floor I'm hoping to upgrade my first pass to Arabian double front.

Q: What were your main goals entering summer training? How are you progressing?
Reynolds: I started summer hoping to make a lot of progress on vault and bars. I want to be a contender for a spot in the vault and bar lineups as well as floor and beam.

Q: What's been most enjoyable for you this summer?
Reynolds: I've been enjoying my time in Athens taking online classes, training, and doing an internship! I also just got back from Europe, which was an awesome experience!

Q: What are you most excited for when the new school year starts?
Reynolds: I am excited for all my teammates to be on campus and practicing together!

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a Gymdog?
Reynolds: So many things, it's hard to pick one! I especially like the support we get from our amazing fan base--second to none! Very few gymnastics teams get to compete in front of 10,000 people every weekend, so I consider myself very blessed to be apart of something so great!
