ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team (5-18, 0-11) fell 3-0 to No. 21 Kentucky (17-7, 10-2) on Thursday night in Stegeman Coliseum by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15.
"I thought our offense was pretty balanced," said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "Our serve and pass game is what got us tonight. I think that's what kept us in the set in game one, but we went a little soft on our serving. Kentucky was in system way too much. We have seen some consistency at the service line, but tonight we just didn't have it."
Sophomore Devan Porter and redshirt junior Desiree McCray led the Bulldog offense with six kills each while sophomore Kendall Kazor dished out 22 assists. Defensively, junior Elle McCord put up a team-best six digs while Kazor and McCray had two blocks each.
The Wildcats' Kaz Brown was a tough stop for Georgia, as Brown had 12 kills with a .625 hitting percentage to match up with four blocks. Kentucky also had a pair with double-digit digs, as Ashley Dusek had 13 and Anni Thomasson had 11.
After a close set to open the match, Kentucky began to widen its lead at 14-11 before a Jasmine Eatmon kill and two UK errors tied it at 16 each; however, the Cats came out of the break to force two quick Georgia timeouts after going up 21-17. Despite a pair of late kills from Maddie Lobenstein, Kentucky would take the set 25-19.
Five-straight UK kills started the second frame before a McCray slam stopped the damage. Georgia wouldn't get out of the deficit, as the Cats went up 2-0 at the break. In the set, Porter put down four of her six kills with no attack errors. Georgia hit at a .267 clip, but UK topped it with a .536 mark in the 25-17 win.
A slow start vanished away for Georgia in the third, as a kill from Lobenstein and ace from Kazor cut the UK advantage to 7-6. A 4-0 run capped by a Sydney Gilliam ace then put Georgia up 10-8. However, a 5-1 run followed by a trio of service aces put UK up 18-12 en route to the match-sealing victory.
Georgia hits the road for its next three matches, starting on Sunday, Nov. 8 at Texas A&M for a 2:30 p.m. ET first serve. The following weekend the Bulldogs head to Missouri on Friday, Nov. 13 and Arkansas on Sunday, Nov. 15.
