ATHENS, Ga. --- Miscues hurt the Georgia volleyball team (5-17, 0-10) on Sunday, as No. 12 Florida (17-4, 9-3) took a straight-set win (25-12, 25-12, 25-19) at the Ramsey Student Center.
"I thought our serve and pass games were really good," said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "But we need to create more offense to keep the pressure on. We had way too many hitting errors. I thought we fought pretty well on defense, but when you make as many hitting mistakes as we made and had our low hitting efficiency across the board, it's hard to compete at the level you need to compete at against a team like Florida."
Georgia had to battle against Florida's 42 kills and .352 hitting mark, led by Ziva Recek's 12 kills.
For Georgia, junior Elle McCord and sophomore Kendall Kazor led the defense with nine digs each while sophomore Maddie Lobenstein had six kills. Along with McCord, redshirt senior Jasmine Eatmon and sophomore Cassidy Anderson tallied an ace apiece while Lobenstein and freshman Majesti Bass each tabbed a solo block against the Gators.
Florida took the 2-0 lead at the break after winning the first two frames by scores of 25-12. In set one, the Gator offense clicked for a .500 hitting percentage to go with 15 digs. In the second set, Georgia held Florida to a .167 hitting mark, as freshman Bre Laney notched six digs in the frame. The Bulldogs got up early at 4-1 with a block from Eatmon and redshirt junior Megan Spencer, but Florida rolled out 15-straight points en route to the win.
Georgia's best set came in the third, as the Bulldogs found themselves down by five at 17-12 after a Florida attack error. The Gators opened it back up to 22-13, but Georgia closed out the frame with a 4-2 run to hold off Florida's match point, as redshirt junior Desiree McCray had a kill to go with two from Lobenstein and an ace from Eatmon in the run.
The three-game homestand for the Bulldogs concludes on Thursday, Nov. 5, as the team takes on top-25 Kentucky at Stegeman Coliseum for a 7 p.m. ET contest. Admission to all Georgia home matches is free.
