Georgia Moves To Fourth At Bryan National

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. --- Emilie Burger's 2-under 70 led the No. 19 Georgia women's golf team to a 7-over 295 in Saturday's second round of the Bryan National Collegiate, moving Burger to second in the individual field and the Bulldogs to fourth on the team leaderboard.
Burger enters Sunday's final round at 2-under 142, two shots off the pace of Virginia's Brittany Altomare. Georgia is at 19-over 595.
The Bulldogs' additional counters on Saturday were a 74 from Manuela Carbajo Ré, a 75 by Kailey Walsh and a 76 from Rocio Sanchez Lobato. A day after counting a 78 and a 79, Georgia dropped Amira Alexander's 77.
"The big thing today was that all five people played well from the beginning and stayed the course," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Emilie got off to a really fast start and that gave us momentum, which is a very big thing. We kind of had a hiccup on the same part of the course as yesterday, No. 16-18, but three people birdied the last hole. That's a great sign that we were competing and fighting to the very end."
Georgia teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of the Bryan Park Championship Course first on Saturday.
Burger got off to a blistering start, with birdies at No. 11 and No. 13 followed by an eagle-3 at No. 15 that put her 4-under through six holes. She turned at 3-under following a bogey at No. 16. Burger earned that shot back with a birdie at No. 3 but she suffered a double-bogey at No. 8 en route to the clubhouse.
Overall, Carbajo Ré is tied for 17th (147), Sanchez Lobato is tied for 52nd (153), Alexander is tied for 61st (155) and Walsh is tied for 75th (158).
No. 15 Virginia leads the team field at 2-under 574, nine shots better than No. 6 Arkansas. Rounding out the top-12 teams are No. 7 Vanderbilt at 586; the Bulldogs and Auburn at 595; No. 5 Florida and Wake Forest both at 596; No. 5 Florida, No. 9 North Carolina and South Carolina all at 597; Michigan State at 600; and No. 2 Duke at 604.
"All five of our golfers have a chance to go out and post a score (tomorrow)," Brewer said. "Our goal is to win the day. If we can get that kind of performance, the worst we will be is fourth and maybe we can catch Arkansas or Vanderbilt. That would be a great way to get ready for the SEC Championships."
Georgia will be paired with N.C. State and Louisville for Saturday's second round. The Bulldogs, Wolfpack and Cardinals will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 8:20 a.m. ET. Live scoring is updated on a three-hole basis at www.golfstat.com.
