Bulldogs Hope To Master Augusta State Invitational
April 03, 2008 | Men's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. All eyes will be on Augusta next week as The Masters is held for the 72nd time. But the eyes of collegiate golf will be on nearby Evans this week.
The No. 2-ranked Georgia men and tournament host Augusta State will be joined by 16 other schools for the Administaff ASU Invitational this weekend. The tournament will be played Friday through Sunday at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, roughly 14 miles from storied Augusta National Golf Club.
“We are looking forward to this tournament,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “It’s another extremely competitive field, but it’s one that we are excited about playing against. This is our last event before the SECs (April 18-20), so I hope we can play well and pick up some momentum.”
The Bulldogs and the Jaguars will face Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Houston, Lamar, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, USC-Aiken and Virginia Tech.
The Bulldogs will play the first two rounds with Augusta State and UCLA. On Friday, they will tee off between 9:30 and 10:05 a.m. Saturday’s tee times are between 10:15 and 10:51 a.m.
Haack will use a lineup of juniors Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell, sophomore Hudson Swafford, and freshmen Russell Henley and Harris English. Swafford and Henley have the same scoring average of 72.33, followed by Mitchell at 72.44, English at 72.52 and Harman at 73.19.
Georgia last played in the ASU Invitational in 2005, finishing as the runner-up to the host Jaguars. That year, the Bulldogs’ Chris Kirk earned medalist honors.
Champions Retreat has been set up to play to a par of 72 covering 7,403 yards.
Live scoring and daily tee times will be available at golfstat.com.
