ATHENS, Ga. -- The top-ranked Georgia men's golf team is the No. 1 seed for this weekend's Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship.
The event will be held Friday through Sunday at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., and will be hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission. The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), in association with Hooters of America, Inc., unveiled the brackets recently.
The men's and women's tournaments will be played simultaneously with the men competing on El Campeón and the women teeing off on Las Colinas. Invitation to the Match Play Championship was based on 2005 national championship finish. UCLA grabbed the top seeding in the women's field.
Georgia will meet in-state foe Georgia Southern in the first round. The winner will face the victor of the 8-9 match between Tennessee and Georgia State.
Other teams in the field include second-seeded Oklahoma State, third-seeded Georgia Tech, fourth-seeded Duke, fifth-seeded Wake Forest, sixth-seeded Arizona State, seventh-seeded Kentucky, 10th-seeded Coastal Carolina, 11th-seeded New Mexico, 12th-seeded Augusta State, 13th-seeded Arizona, 14th-seeded Missouri and 15th-seeded Stanford.
