Georgia closes its three-match homestand with a visit from No. 24 Oklahoma Friday evening, the first-ever trip by the Sooners to Athens. The contest marks Georgia's third-consecutive ranked opponent at home, a feat that has previously occurred twice in program history (2008, 2022). In the previous two instances, the Bulldogs went winless in the three-match set.
Georgia and Oklahoma have only met once before: a 2-0 Georgia victory in Norman on Oct. 4, 2024. Amber Nguyen scored the winning goal in the 32nd minute before Tori Penn sealed the win in the 57th minute for the Bulldogs. For Georgia head coach Keidane McAlpine, this is his fourth all-time meeting with Oklahoma head coach Matt Mott, who he replaced as an Auburn assistant in 2006. Mott's Ole Miss squad advanced past McAlpine's USC team in the spring 2021 NCAA Tournament, while McAlpine has prevailed in both meetings while helming the Bulldogs.
Roster Connections
Georgia and Oklahoma carry several roster connections into Friday's match. Bulldog freshman defender Lilly Osifodunrin was teammates with Sooner freshmen Brenna Hallam and Avery Brand on the Real Colorado club team that won the 2025 ECNL U17 national championship. Oklahoma defender Sadie Sterbenz and Georgia forward Emma Pettersen were teammates for three seasons at Middle Tennessee (2023-25), with both players earning All-Conference USA honors last year. In another set of former teammates, OU reserve goalkeeper Addison Tauscher joined Georgia defender Assa Kante on the 2024 Big 12 champion Kansas Jayhawks. Finally, Sooner assistant coach Warren Russ was a member of the UGA coaching staff for its first five seasons (1995-99).
Scholar and Athlete
Senior midfielder Kiera Staude was honored with the Joel Eaves Scholar-Athlete Award last Saturday prior to the Georgia-Western Kentucky football game. The award is presented annually to the male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average upon entering the fall semester of his or her senior year, based on academic hour rather than eligibility. Staude is the fourth member of the women's soccer program who has been selected as a Joel Eaves Award winner, following Morgan Hart (2023), Caroline Chipman (2019), and Liliana Rios (2015). The Accounting major has been named twice to the CSC Academic All-District Team, received multiple UGA Presidential Scholars honors, and inducted into the Georgia Way L.E.A.D. Leadership Academy.
Drawing Dores
Georgia opened SEC play with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against No. 2 Vanderbilt last Thursday, earning a result in its conference opener for the fourth time in five seasons under Keidane McAlpine. With the tie, the Bulldogs earned a draw against a top two opponent for the second time in program history, following a 1-1 result at No. 1 Florida State in 2024. Honoka Hamano scored the Bulldogs' lone goal in the 15th minute with her fourth goal of the season, earning SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. After goalkeeper Jordan Brown was sent off with a red card in the 23rd minute, the Georgia defense remained stout and earned the point, with new keeper Hannah Folliard tallying five saves against 18 shots. The Commodores would eventually rack up 15 corner kicks, the most ever by a Georgia opponent in program history. The previous record of 14 was set by Virginia in 2008 and Alabama in 1996.
Friday Night's the Night
Under Keidane McAlpine, Friday fixtures have been a strong harbinger for Georgia victory. In McAlpine's first four seasons, the Bulldogs hold a 10-2-1 record in Friday matches, including an unbeaten mark in regular season contests. The lone two losses have occurred in the first round of the past two NCAA Tournaments.
