Georgia Set for 2026 Outdoor SEC Championships

AUBURN, Ala. – The top-ranked Georgia women and third-ranked Bulldog men traveled to Auburn, Ala., on Monday in preparation for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships at the Hutsell-Rosen Track scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.
» The Tigers last played host to the SEC meet in 2008 during a meet that the Georgia men and women finished 10th. Next year, the 2027 SEC Outdoor Championships will be in Athens at the new UGA Track & Field Complex on the Spec Towns Track.
» Sophomore Maximus Tucker will compete in his second SEC decathlon competition for Bulldog men with the 100-meter dash at 12:30 p.m. ET on the first day (Thursday) followed by the dec's long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. Senior Ella Rush will start the heptathlon at 1 p.m. that day with the 100m hurdles. The high jump, shot put and 200m will wrap up the heptathletes' first day.
» Sophomore Xai Ricks will be the first Georgia competitor on the track in an open event as he competes in the men's 800m prelims on Thursday at 6:50 p.m.
» The first open field event for UGA will be the men's javelin as senior Jordan Davis and sophomore Nick Reynolds try to secure gold for the Bulldogs at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
» The Bulldog women enter the conference meet with 15 marks or times in the 2026 NCAA top-25 and a pair of top-five relay performances in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The Georgia men boast 13 top-25 marks or times and own the NCAA-leading mark in the 4x400-meter relay.
» Georgia owns nine conference-leading marks entering the SEC Championships. On the women's side, Adaejah Hodge leads the SEC in the 100 meters (10.77), while Kaila Jackson, Reign Redmond, Hodge and Jassani Carter hold the conference's top 4x100-meter relay time (42.62). Chelsi Williams ranks first in the long jump (6.43m/21-1.25), Skylynn Townsend leads the triple jump (13.67m/44-10.25) and Rush sits atop the heptathlon standings with 5,797 points.
» The Bulldog men also hold four SEC-leading performances entering the weekend. Jonathan Simms owns the conference's top 400-meter time at 44.02, while Xai Ricks, Sidi Njie, Simms and Mohamed Adoini lead the nation in the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:01.15. Kimani Jack ranks first in the high jump at 2.31m (7-7), and Tucker leads the SEC decathlon standings with 7,786 points.
» The Lady Bulldogs are attempting to be the first women's team to defend their SEC outdoor title since Arkansas in 2019 and 2021 (the 2020 SEC Outdoor Championships were canceled due to the pandemic). SEC women's teams have won at least two titles in a row eight times since the first SEC Outdoor Championships that included a women's competition in 1981.
» Last season the Bulldog women secured the conference title by collecting an impressive 103 points. Georgia brings back a strong core of contributors from last season's championship squad, including members of the runner-up women's 4x400-meter relay team that clocked a 3:24.85 being Smith and Dejanea Oakley. Jackson also returns after earning a third-place finish in the women's 200 meters with a 22.66. In the field events, Townsend returns following her third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.50m/44-3.50, while Kelsie Murrell-Ross placed third in the shot put at 18.00m/59-0.75. Additionally, heptathlete Rush will have a final attempt at outdoor gold in the heptathlon after a third-place 5,532 point finish last year.
» The Bulldog men also return several key contributors from last season's SEC Outdoor Championships runner-up team. Riyon Rankin captured the conference title in the high jump with a clearance of 2.29m (7-6), while Jayden Keys secured gold in the long jump after a leap of 7.95m (26-1). Maximus Tucker also returns after earning a runner-up finish in the decathlon with 7,437 points.
