The GymDogs are poised for a top-10 matchup at Stegeman Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 6, when No. 5 Florida comes to Athens. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. and will air on SEC Network. The 'GymDogs Go Country' and the first 500 UGA students and 250 kids, 12 & under, will receive a cowboy hat.
Recapping the Last Meet
Georgia posted a 197.050 in a 197.450-197.050 loss to No. 10 Arkansas last Friday at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. The GymDogs's team total marked Georgia's season-high score in away competition. Csenge Bácskay recorded a season-high 9.875 on bars, while Ja' Free Scott tied her season high with a 9.900. Lily Smith anchored the bars lineup with a 9.925 to earn second overall and push Georgia to tie a season-high of 49.400 on the event. Harley Tomlin posted a career-high 9.925 on floor, followed by Nyla Aquino, who tied her season high with a 9.925. Tomlin and Aquino tied for second on the event. Smith anchored the lineup with a 9.950 to claim the event title, her sixth floor title this season.
GymDogs in the Rankings
The GymDogs check in at No. 6 in the country in the Week 6 Road to Nationals rankings with a 197.225 team average. Georgia holds the top spot in the nation on floor (49.508) and is seventh on bars (49.313), eighth on vault (49.229) and 11th on beam (49.175). The Bulldogs have risen in the rankings each week on vault, bars, and floor. Individually, Lily Smith has held the top spot in the nation on floor for the four weeks, currently averaging a 9.962. Holly Snyder ranks eighth on beam with a 9.925 while CaMarah Williams ranks 10th with a 9.917 average.
Georgia's History at Metroplex
Georgia has competed at the Metroplex Challenge three times in the past: 2013, 2020, and 2023. The GymDogs placed fourth of five teams in 2013, fourth of four teams in 2020, and third of four teams in 2023.
Aquino Provides Consistency in Vault, Floor Lineups
Sophomore Nyla Aquino has competed on vault and floor in all six of Georgia's meets. She tallied seven scores of 9.900 or better (3 vault, 4 floor). She's nearly topped that total from last year when she has two on vault and six on floor. Aquino currently ranks 15th nationally on vault (9.875) and 20th on floor (9.900).
Scott Setting the Bar High on Bars
Senior Ja' Free Scott is pacing the GymDogs on bars this season, ranking 20th nationally with a 9.883 average. She leads the team with four scores of 9.990 or better, all coming in the last five meets.
Williams Clicking Early
Despite just arriving on campus in December, freshman CaMarah Williams is already a huge contributor to the GymDog lineup. She's scored a 9.900 or better in five of six floor routines, has improved week-to-week on vault, and owns two 9.900s and 9.950 in three beam routines. The Kansas City native holds five event titles to her name this season, three of which were won in the meet against Auburn on Feb. 1, and ranks 10th nationally on beam with a 9.917 average and 12th on floor with a 9.917 average. She's has the second-most scores of 9.900 or better on the team with 10.
