No. 1 Bulldogs Set to Face Florida A&M in NCAA Regional First Round

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 1 Georgia women's tennis team (23-3, 13-2 SEC) is set to open postseason competition as hosts of the NCAA Regional with a first round matchup against Florida A&M (11-10, 6-2 SWAC) on Friday, May 2 at 1 p.m. ET at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

  • The Bulldogs — who won the 2025 SEC tournament title — have received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 38th-straight year with an all-time tournament record of 98-35.

No. 1 Georgia enters the weekend with six Bulldogs listed in the latest ITA player rankings. In singles, Dasha Vidmanova heads the top of the list at #2 followed by Anastasiia Lopata at #17, Aysegul Mert at #42 and Guillermina Grant at #74. In doubles, Vidmanova and Mell Reasco slot in at #1 followed by Grant and Mert at #29 before rounding out with Lopata and Grant at #68.
 
Last Time Out
The No. 2 ranked and 2-seeded Georgia women's tennis team (23-3, 13-2 SEC) won its third-consecutive Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship after knocking off No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Texas A&M (25-2, 14-1 SEC), 4-2, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Sunday. The Bulldogs secured their 11th SEC Tournament title as well as their second conference tourney three-peat in program history, replicating the three-year title winning stretch from 2007-09. Georgia joins Florida as the only two programs in SEC history to accomplish this feat. Georgia earned the doubles point to open the afternoon as the #74 tandem of Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata struck first with a 6-3 win over Mia Kupres and Daria Smetannikov on court two. With Texas A&M closing in for a court one win, the court three duo of Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry pulled through to take down Nicole Khirin and Lexington Reed, 6-4, and secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs. In singles, both sides split first sets at three apiece as Mell Reasco was sharp on court three, cruising past #72 Kupres, 6-3, 6-1, to double Georgia's lead at 2-0. #54 Mert played a smart game through two sets, holding off several second set comeback bids to defeat #51 Perez, 6-3, 6-1, on court four to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. After back-to-back singles wins on court one and six for Texas A&M, #85 Grant battled through several match points to defeat #102 Smetannikov, 6-2, 7-5, on court five to secure the clinch and the title for Georgia. Two Bulldogs in Grant and Mert were voted to the All-Tournament Team while Grant also took SEC Tournament MVP Honors with three doubles wins and three singles wins through three rounds of play.

Scouting the NCAA Regional Opponents
Florida A&M – Florida A&M heads into Athens coming off a 2025 SWAC Tournament title after knocking off Jackson State, 4-2. Finishing the season 11-10 with a 6-2 conference record, the Rattlers are riding momentum with a six-match winning streak while winning 11 of their last 13 matches after starting the season 0-8 in dual match play. Led by Rochelle Houston in her 10thseason at the helm, Florida A&M will look to continue its winning stretch heading into the NCAA Regional first round. 
 
Georgia Tech - No. 29 Georgia Tech enters the postseason at 13-11 overall with a 6-6 ACC mark, good for sixth in the final conference standings. The Yellow Jackets have dropped four of their last six matches after a four-match win streak in the second half of March. Georgia Tech have already met the Bulldogs this spring, falling 4-0 on Jan. 17 in the Bulldogs season opener. Led by head coach Rodney Harmon in his 13th season at the helm, Georgia Tech have four players listed in the latest ITA player rankings. In singles, the Yellow Jackets are represented by #28 Scarlett Nicholson and #90 Alejandra Cruz. In doubles, Georgia Tech own two pairs in #55 Nicholson and Kylie Bilchev as well as #69 Cruz and Given Roach.
 
Iowa - No. 33 Iowa heads to Athens after a 13-10 season with a 7-6 finish in the Big Ten, good for a tie for seventh in the final conference standings. The Hawkeyes own five ranked victories this season, sharing a common win with the Bulldogs in Northwestern. Led by head coach Sasha Boros in her ninth season at the helm, Iowa have three players listed in the latest ITA player rankings. In singles, the Hawkeyes own two in the top 125 in #107 Daianne Hayashida as well as #124 Tereza Dejnozkova. In doubles, Iowa rep a lone pair with Dejnozkova and Nikita Vishwase checking in at No. 65.
