No. 9 Georgia Faces KSU Tuesday At Foley Field

April 28, 2025 | Baseball

ATHENS, Ga.----- The ninth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (35-11) play host to Kennesaw State (22-21) Tuesday at 7:02 p.m. on the SEC Network.

In year two under Ike Cousins head baseball coach Wes Johnson, the Bulldogs have been a consensus top 10 ranked team all season and are ranked as high as No. 3 (Perfect Game) this week. The Bulldogs are 26-3 at home, 6-8 on the road and 3-0 at neutral sites this season.

The Bulldogs, who have the No. 2 RPI by the NCAA, are 23-2 against non-conference teams. The game against the Owls will mark the final non-conference game of the regular season. The two losses came at UNC Wilmington on Feb. 16 and at No. 2 Clemson on Apr. 22. After Tuesday, the Bulldogs have three SEC series left, going to Missouri and No. 18 Alabama and then finish here at Foley Field against Texas A&M. Georgia just concluded an 11-game stretch against ranked opponents, going 5-6 and that included a season-long five-game losing streak. Georgia bounced back to win a series over No. 14 Oklahoma this past weekend in Athens. The rubber game of the series Saturday featured four home runs by the Bulldogs as part of a 6-3 victory. Georgia leads the nation with 112 home runs and is seventh in slugging percentage at .571.

Georgia holds a 25-11 series edge over KSU including a 6-4 win on Feb. 18 in Marietta. The Owls led 4-0 after two innings before Georgia got a pair of runs in the fourth, a home run from Slate Alford in the seventh, and a game-tying home run from Ryan Black in the eighth. In the ninth, Georgia took its first lead as Bryce Clavon doubled and later scored on a wild pitch and Black's RBI-single plated Alford for an insurance run. Brian Curley came on for a save in the ninth.

The Owls won a conference road series over Liberty this past weekend including a 15-7 slugfest in Sunday's contest. They are 11-4 in the month of April.  Georgia has used a staff approach on the mound for its midweek games. On deck, the Bulldogs travel to Missouri (13-30, 0-21 SEC) who faces No. 25 Kansas (35-10) in Lawrence on Tuesday as the Tigers aim to snap a seven-game losing streak.

The Bulldogs are batting .291 with a .571 slugging percentage and an NCAA-leading 112 home runs. They have a .420 OB%, been hit 96 times plus are 51-for-58 in stolen bases. KSU is batting .270 with a .430 slugging percentage and 45 home runs. The Bulldogs have posted a 4.99 ERA with 474 strikeouts and 212 walks. Opponents are batting .232 against Georgia. KSU has a 5.79 ERA with 387 strikeouts and 207 walks this season. Opponents are batting .260 against the Owls with 43 home runs. Georgia's fielding percentage is .982 while the Owls are fielding .960.
