Key Quote
Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson
On how the team adjusted from an SEC series to a midweek non-conference game
"That Oklahoma team was really good this weekend. It had probably two of the best right-handed starters we've seen this year so far at least to this point in the year and it's hard. It's a grind. Not only the games are hard, it's mentally hard on you. Just to come out and play loose and get some things done. I thought our pitchers did a really good job today. We did hit some guys. We have to clean that up a bit, but that always gives your hitters a little chance to relax when you have guys coming out, attacking the strike zone the way we were. You need those games, and we only lost one midweek all year which says a lot. It's really hard to do when you come off of such emotional weekends."
On the rest of conference play and the bullpen
"We play a lot of matchups, and we've had some success in the bullpen. For the most part, our pen has been solid, and the matchups have worked. It's a good problem to have with so many pitchers in the pen. Nate [Taylor]'s now worked himself into being a guy we can get in there and push up the matchup grid. I like where our bullpen is, and I like the way we are matching up"
Slate Alford | Sr. | 3B
On his triple in the win and working on speed during the offseason
"It's nice. You can ask Henry [Hunter], there were a lot of days on that track and it's nice to see it pay off a little bit. I worked with Henry a lot. We called it the griddle and we got after it, but I'm just trying to do what I can to polish my game up a little bit."
