No. 5 Bulldogs Continue Homestand Tuesday

ATHENS, Ga.-----Fifth-ranked Georgia begins another five-game week Tuesday when High Point visits followed by Georgia State Wednesday and then Columbia for a weekend series.
The Bulldogs (13-1), who are riding a 10-game winning streak, welcome the High Point Panthers (9-3) to Foley Field Tuesday at 3 p.m. On Wednesday at 3 p.m., Georgia faces Ga. State for the second time this year.
The Bulldogs are a consensus top 10 squad again this week as they are in year two of the Wes Johnson era. Last week, the Bulldogs defeated Georgia State 7-3 in Atlanta and then swept a four-game set from Florida Gulf Coast at Foley Field with four walk-offs (three courtesy of Slate Alford) including one via a run-rule. The series with FGCU began with a 10-9 contest followed by a 10-0 run-rule, a 9-8 win in 10 innings and concluded with a ninth inning two-run blast by Ryan Black for a 4-3 sweep. Georgia is 8-0 at Foley Field this year.
High Point was 8-1 when it arrived in Macon last Friday and went 1-2, splitting with Mercer and falling to Florida A&M. GSU (9-2) bounced back from its loss to the Bulldogs to sweep Alabama A&M. GSU faces Alabama State on Tuesday. Columbia (1-6) beat Kennesaw State on Opening Day in Kennesaw but has dropped six straight. They lost the next two to the Owls and then were swept in a four-game road series with No. 11 Oregon. This will be the first meeting with High Point and Columbia while Georgia holds a 50-9 edge over Ga. State.
UGA-HP, GSU Probable Pitching Matchup
Tues.: Zach Harris, RHP, Jr. (0-0, 6.75 ERA) vs. Cord Butler (1-1, 5.19 ERA), RHP, Sr.; Wed.: TBA vs. TBA
Harris learned the morning of Opening Day this year that he would start in place of junior Kolten Smith who was scratched due to back spasms. Harris opened the 2025 campaign by going 4.0 innings against Quinnipiac in Wilmington, N.C., and got a no decision, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. His other start this year came at Ga. State, going 1.1 innings and surrendering three runs on three hits in a no decision.
Bulldogs Post Another 5-0 Week
Last week, Georgia went 5-0 by batting .312 with 12 home runs and a .451 OB%. The pitching staff posted a 4.30 ERA and registered 57 Ks and 24 BBs in 44 IP. Offensively, Tre Phelps batted a team-best .556 (10-for-18) with six runs scored, two home runs and eight RBI. Ryland Zaborowski hit .444 (4-for-9) with a double, two home runs and three RBI plus drew six walks. Daniel Jackson smashed three home runs among his six hits in 16 at bats.
Nineteen different Bulldogs saw action on the mound with sophomore Jordan Stephens going 2-0 in only 1.2 innings while Brian Curley picked up his first win as Bulldog with four scoreless and hitless frames over two appearances with seven strikeouts.
For the year, the Bulldogs are batting .301 with a .544 SLG%, a .455 OB% plus are 22-for-25 in SB. The team's leading hitters are Ryland Zaborowski (.452-4-18), Slate Alford (.347-3-20, 14 BB) and Robbie Burnett (.333-4-14, 14 BB, 8 SB).
