Bulldogs Earn Four Podium Trips, Set Two School Records at NCAAs

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Four podium trips, two school records, and numerous best times highlighted an incredible evening for the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team Friday evening at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
With one night of competition remaining, Georgia stands in fifth place with 177.5 points. Texas leads the overall standings with 368 points, followed by California in second with 312.5, Indiana in third with 304, and Florida in fourth at 233.
Events
100y Butterfly – Redshirt senior Luca Urlando opened the evening with a third-place finish, breaking his own school record from earlier this season with a time of 43.49. Urlando now holds the top seven 100y butterfly times in program history. Earlier in prelims, Urlando placed fifth with a time of 44.01, the fifth-fastest all-time.
400y Individual Medley – Graduate Jake Magahey earned the 14th First Team All-America citation of his terrific career with a fourth-place time of 3:37.43. Magahey's new personal best mark was the eighth-fastest time in program history and maintained his spot as the third-ranked performer in Georgia history. Although freshman Drew Hitchcock was disqualified in finals, he finished 11th in prelims with a PB of 3:39.55, moving up to sixth all-time in program history.
200y Freestyle – Sophomore Tomas Koski notched his third First Team citation of the week as he tied for sixth with a time of 1:31.36, the ninth-fastest time in program history. In the morning session, Koski touched eighth with a time of 1:31.06, the sixth-fastest all-time.
100y Backstroke – Junior Ruard van Renen earned First Team honors for the second-consecutive season as he finished third with a personal-best time of 43.85, the second-fastest time in program history. In prelims, he took fourth with a then-PB of 44.08.
3-meter Diving – Sophomore Matthew Bray finished 26th with a score of 330.90, while junior Renato Calderaro placed 46th at 269.20.
400y Medley Relay – The team of van Renen, redshirt sophomore Kristian Pitshugin, Urlando, and senior Reese Branzell earned First Team All-America status with a sixth-place time of 3:00.38, smashing the previous school record from 2018 by over three seconds. van Renen led off with a time of 43.86, completing his career day with the three fastest 100y backstroke times of his career and three of the top four in program history while posting the top leadoff of all competitors. Pitshugin followed with a 51.37 split, followed by Urlando in 43.15 and Branzell closing at 42.00.
