Urlando Wins NCAA Title as Georgia Finishes Seventh Overall

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Redshirt senior Luca Urlando set a new standard in the 200y butterfly with a record-breaking championship, capping off a seventh-place finish for the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday evening at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Georgia finished seventh with 238.5 points, the highest finish and total for the team since 2021. Texas won the national championship with 490 points, followed by California in second with 471 points and Indiana in third at 459 points.

1,650y Freestyle – Sophomore Tomas Koski earned Second Team All-America honors in only the second mile of his collegiate career, placing 12th with a personal-best time of 14:38.20, becoming the sixth-fastest performer in program history. Koski led wire-to-wire in his heat, opening up with a 1,000y freestyle split of 8:49.54, the eighth-fastest in program history.
200y Backstroke – Junior Ruard van Renen earned his fourth First Team citation of the week with a seventh-place time of 1:38.11, the fourth-fastest in program history. In prelims, van Renen broke the school record set by Bradley Dunham at the 2024 NCAA Championships by a half-second, placing fourth with a 1:37.08.
200y Butterfly – Urlando dominated the field en route to his first NCAA championship, posting a 45.21 on his opening 100 yards before closing at 1:36.43 to rewrite his American, NCAA, U.S. Open, SEC, and school records. The Sacramento, California native is the 17th member of the Georgia men's team to earn a national title, raising the program total to 24. Urlando's win was the third in the 200y butterfly and the seventh to be claimed in Federal Way, dating back to the 2008 and 2012 championships. Elsewhere in the final, graduate Jake Magahey closed out his individual career with a seventh-place time of 1:39.67, a new personal best that rankss him second all-time among Bulldogs in the 200 fly.
400y Freestyle Relay – Urlando, Magahey, Koski, and senior Reese Branzell earned Second Team All-America honors with an 11th-place finish, resetting the school record with a time of 2:47.15. Urlando led off with a personal-best 100y freestyle time of 41.58, the second-fastest time in program history.
