ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia junior swimmer and NCAA champion Abby McCulloh was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Swimming & Diving Academic All-America ® First Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
McCulloh was one of 11 student-athletes named to the CSC First Team, which included fellow NCAA champions Alex Walsh and Gretchen Walsh. The Lilburn native is the 23rd Bulldog in program history to receive CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America First Team honors and the first since Chantal Van Landeghem in 2017.
McCulloh capped off a career year by becoming Georgia's seventh NCAA champion in the 1,650y freestyle, winning in her home pool with a Bauerle Pool-record and personal-best time of 15:37.74, after previously finishing sixth in the 500y freestyle. She also won the SEC title in the mile and earned a bronze medal in the 500y free. During the season, she was consistently ranked as the nation's fastest swimmer in the mile and twice set pool records in the 1,000y freestyle, earning SEC Swimmer of the Week honors in the process.
In the classroom, she was named to the CSC Academic All-District ® Team on April 2 and was recognized as SEC Women's Swimming & Diving Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year in February, sharing the honor with fellow First Team All-American Chloe Stepanek of Texas A&M. In the fall semester, she earned UGA Presidential Scholars honors for posting a 4.0 GPA while taking 14 or more credit hours.
