Wenzel Qualifies on 3-meter at Zones

ATHENS, Ga. – Senior diver Meghan Wenzel added the 3-meter springboard to her NCAA program Monday on the second day of competition at the 2024 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Wenzel overcame a 3.0 score on her third dive in finals to finish 12th overall in the finals, earning NCAA qualification after placing sixth on 1-meter Sunday. In prelims, Wenzel ranked fifth with a score of 316.50, earning 50+ scores on her final three dives. Moving on to finals, she rebounded from third round dive with a 46.80, followed by a 63.00 and 58.80 on her final two dives to clinch another slot at nationals.
Elsewhere in prelims, sophomore Hannah Stumpf barely missed out on finals, finishing 19th with a score of 279.85, while freshman Michelle Cummo closed out her freshman campaign with a score of 229.60
In the men's 1-meter, all three Bulldogs reached the finals, led by freshman Matthew Bray in 10th place with a score of 635.70, remaining in contention for NCAAs through his final dive. Junior Nolan Lewis finished strong to place 12th overall at 604.80, with fellow junior Rhett Hopkins tallying 581.90 points in a 16th-place finish.
The NCAA Zone B Championships continue tomorrow with the men's 3-meter and women's platform events. The men's session begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women's round at 3:15 p.m. The top seven finalists in each event will automatically qualify for NCAAs. If Bray or Lewis finish top seven, they will add 1-meter to their program, while Wenzel only needs a top-12 finish to add the platform event.
