Wenzel Finishes 13th on Platform at Zones

ATHENS, Ga. – Three members of the University of Georgia diving team reached finals on the third day of competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Tuesday at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Senior Meghan Wenzel just missed out on qualifying for all three events as she finished 13th in the women's platform with a score of 502.60. Wenzel rebounded from a 37.20 on her third dive to finish with scores of 65.60 and 52.20 and nearly earn another NCAA bid. In prelims, she made an impressive comeback, overcoming a tough second dive to finish 17th with a score of 232.30. The Hatfield, Pennsylvania native will compete on both springboards next week at the NCAA Championships in Athens.
In the men's 3-meter prelims, senior Rhett Hopkins finished 20th with a score of 323.15, closing strong with 63.55 and 64.60 scores on his final two dives. Freshman Matthew Bray followed behind in 21st place with a mark of 321.20.
The NCAA Zone B Championships conclude tomorrow with the men's platform and team events. The men's session begins at 11 a.m., followed by the team exhibition at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free to all fans at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Live results are available at https://gado.gs/zones24.
